Machinal
Director
Machinal is inspired by the real-life case of murderess, Ruth
Snyder. Through nine episodes Machinal follows the life of a
young woman as she attempts to fulfil the traditionally 'feminine' roles that a repressive society expects of her. A glimpse of happiness ignites her decision to fight back in the pursuit of freedom. This contemporary interpretation of Sophie Treadwell’s 1928 expressionistic masterpiece features a new and dynamic female ensemble playing a variety of characters. The role of ‘Young Woman’ emerges from the ensemble and will be portrayed by three actresses, representing the beginning, middle and ending of what could be any woman’s story.
